Garhwal and Kumaon

Geographically, Uttarakhand is divided into two main regions: Garhwal and Kumaon.

  1. Garhwal Region: The Garhwal region is located in the western part of Uttarakhand and is known for its lofty mountains, sacred rivers, and revered pilgrimage sites. It includes districts such as Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag. The region is adorned with majestic peaks like Nanda Devi, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. It is also home to the holy cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh, which attract millions of devotees and spiritual seekers.

  2. Kumaon Region: The Kumaon region lies in the eastern part of Uttarakhand and is characterized by picturesque valleys, enchanting lakes, and dense forests. It comprises districts such as Almora, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. Kumaon is renowned for its hill stations like Nainital, Ranikhet, and Mukteshwar, which offer breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The region is also known for its wildlife sanctuaries, including Jim Corbett National Park, and the captivating Naini Lake.
